Rapper Kgosi Boipelo Talks Unity, Growth and Independence

Kgosi Boipelo is one of Pretoria's most promising talents as far as music is concerned. Having called Ga-Rankuwa home for the longest time, this is where he spent his time finding himself, learning his skills and moulding his rap career. Like any other, the journey has been eventful, full of lessons, ups and downs and growth. He now says he is ready to take on his musical journey as a solo artist.

He has just released a remix to a song of his titled, “Capcity” that was released early this year which pays homage to "Capcity" as Pretoria is famously known. The “Capcity season 2 Remix”. The remix marathon features 11 of Pretoria artists who carry the torch as proudly as he does.

The remix was released on the 31st of July and features Capcitizens- Teboza, Roman Bishop, 2kLani, Kaz, SP, Lebo, SirFiveNine, GR8, T-Tech, Habatake, Wzrd, and they all came through with different flavours and rap styles, something that Kgosi Boipelo was intentionally going for. “The capcity remix was about connecting with and connecting artists around the 012 and creating unity. I have always been about my bread obviously but unity is also on top of the list. I’ve always been a believer of “izandla ziya gezana” and my brothers also came through proper with their verses and I do believe on the first Capcity I repp’ed the side of 012 I love and prefer, so you can check that out too”

Pretoria Hip Hop is steadily finding back its place and with the likes of A-Reece, Zoocie and recent addition to the PTA golden artists, 25k, Kgosi Boipelo says he’s inspired and would like to also find himself at the top of that list. “Respect to 25k and all the brothers pushing, may Allah keep blessing their hustle. Capcity is easily warming its way to the top and the throne done been waiting for the Kgosi. Fede I’m inspired by the great work these kats are putting in and I’m confident enough to say re tlo fitlha one by one.”

He began his rap career around 16 years after years of following the Hip Hop music scene with his inspirations delving from local and international artists like the late SA Rap icon PRO, Motswako legend Tuks, Gingertrill, Eminem, Biggy, 2Pac, Slaughterhouse, Kendrick Lamar and a lot of underground rappers.

The now 20-something year old rapper and producer recently revealed that he is soon to drop his first ever independent solo EP “Proud Hobo” which will comprise of a series of 3 disks

Kgosi has been part of Ga-Rankuwa based record label, Corner Joint Records for most of his rap life. Corner Joint Records, which is famously known around Rankuwa as the home of rappers, has been the rappers’ family for most of his rap life, even forming Rap trio “Ane Dess Mengel under the stable and releasing an EP titled “Party Pack”. Though he credits CJ as a forever home, he says now is time to spread his wings and see what the outside world has to offer. “I don’t know where I’d be without those brothers, I’m grateful for everything they taught me. Next step is putting in more work and spreading wings more for as much as I can let out.”

This solo venture now means putting in more work and being more hands on in all his musical endeavours, creative input and the business side of things. He says he is ready for the opportunities and challenges too. “I just want to learn more and explore more. I am hungry and if any opportunity presents itself I will take it but with much caution because I don’t wanna end up like Fifi and friends. We must learn to read the fine prints and do research, arm ourselves with knowledge. I believe we all want more for ourselves and who knows, I might be with another label soon”His hopes for himself as far as the music goes is to further infiltrate the whole of Pretoria and beyond and for his music to reach great heights. He also wants to see Hip Hop coming together and seeing talent flourish and get its due.

Kgosi is also big on paying it forward and making sure that the kids coming, walking on their footprints find Hip Hop in a better state than he and his generation did as far as being an upcoming artist. “There is nothing as disheartening as seeing katz with great talent overlooked and not getting their piece of the pie. I don’t want the upcoming generation to be discouraged by this set up. There is nothing that would make me happier than putting on kids from my hood and city, and everywhere else for that matter. I don’t wish for the young ones to have it as hard as we did because there is much lacking in resources and development in the creative space.

Boipelo is on a journey to make his mark and is looking to secure his spot as one of the acclaimed rappers in Capcity and claim the Kingship. He says he has big plans and hopes that Allah will see him through. “Everything I do and learning now is for the future generation. Alhamdulilah for all the strength and wisdom to get where I am today, might not be there yet but everything is nice and looking up”

The Motswako Prince of Maftown, Sly YoHighness

It looks like Sly YoHighness might just got next as the Motswako Prince. It's now been a long while since we've had a proper Motswako wave breakthrough. Remember when the Morafe and Tuks wave hit, or when Gata lenna came out, Fifi Cooper and the late HHPs consistency and many comebacks? A lot of us have been wondering "who got next"? With the fall of guys like Notshi and KT struggling to properly cement his stance, is Sly the guy to look out for? I hit him up through the socials, to find out what he's been up to and if he really got his sight set on the throne. So how did he get into this whole music and creative space thing? He says he's always been artistic and one thing led to the other . "I love & have always loved acting. I'm very out there & funny too (yes, he is). So once I started writing I kinda never stopped, though I always felt it's a farfetched dream or whatever but I kept on writing, even if it was just for mysel

Tan89Media Tips For Emerging Talent

Attention Emerging Talent!! So, for the years that I have been dealing with and working alongside emerging talent, more so, artists. I have noticed some behavior pertaining to their brand. That could be credited to lack of experience and knowledge but it could also be ignorance and lack of proactivity. A lot of talent lacks a lot of knowledge of their industries. The very same field they want to occupy one day. Its super essential for anyone to know as much as possible when it comes to a dream they are pursuing or a skill they are great at or anything for that matter they say they are passionate about. The very basic things to know are many times overlooked and undermined and they play a huge role in how you develop as a brand, how you are perceived, and it shows just how serious or not one is about whatever it is they are pursuing.
