Rappers and Marriage: SA Rappers Who Got Married in 2019







2019 seems to have been a marriage inspired year with so many wedding having taken place, despite Covid-19 hitting us all. Some of our rappers chose the year to be the year to wed. While many like Kwesta and Solo went all out publicly, some like Okmalumkoolkat and Towdeemac kept thier union low-key and intimate. 

You might know these rappers but do you know the the people they said their "I do" to.?

Priddy Ugly & Bontle Modiselle-28 September   2019

Priddy Ugly and Bontle are both part of the entertainment industry and holding their own respectively. Priddy, whose real name is Richardo Moloi has a dance background having been a member of dance group “Freeze Frame”. 

While he left that world after an injury, his wife is a renowned and amazing dancer. She is also an actress and TV host. She has  featured on the movie “Hear Me Move” and presented shows like “Club 808" on eTV and recently was the host of SAMA27. Priddy was previously signed under the record label “Ambitious Entertainment” and released his debut album EGYPT. Since his departure from the label, he has released two projects, G.O.A.T and his recent release is an album titled SOIL. 

In 2019 alone, which seems to have been the couples’ busiest year, Bontle and Priddy Ugly released a joint musical project titled D.N.A (De New Africa) under the alias “Rick Jade” which comprised of 10 tracks. The couple then tied the knot in September before welcoming their very first child together, a baby girl named Afrika Bonita Lerato Moloi.

Towdeemac & Levi Chetty- 9 November 2019

Towdeemac Lerothodi Moagi is a notable name that will always come up when Motswako is the topic of conversation. The 1/3 of Hip Hop group, Morafe is one of the torch bearers who helped Motswako see its ultimate rise. Having been a music lecturer at Emendy, he is the most knowledgeable artist you’ll ever come across. He currently hosts a Hip Hop show on YOU FM 989, Fridays from 21:00 pm

Levi Chetty is also in the music business but more so in the background as talent and events manager. She has years of experience in many facets of the industry as she started as early as her schooling days doing events. She now runs an events and talent agency which houses the likes of KayGee (from Morafe), Huge Da Oracle and Towdeemac. The couple got married on the 9th of November 2020 and have a daughter. 







Okmalumkoolkat & Princess Zulu- December 2019

Smiso Zwane aka OkMalumKoolKat got married to his long term girlfriend Princess Zulu in the December of 2019 in an intimate setting with just family and close friends. Malume is an internationally acclaimed rapper, producer dancer and videographer. He is an influential individual who broke out as part of the movement “Boyz N Bucks” which also comprised of Ricky Rick, Scoop Makhathini and Stilo Magolide.

Though she is very private and removed from the public eye, the apparent actress and director has been seen by many as the lead on her rapper husbands’ “Amalobolo” music video. 

Chance The Rapper & Kirsten Corley- March 2019 

Chance and Kirsten have known each other since they were kids and started dating in 2013. While Chance is a Grammy winning rapper, Kirsten is a former model and an estage agent. She has recently launched "BOBY",  a children's clothing line. They have two daughters together and Chance themed his debut album "The Big Day" around his wedding and marriage to Kirsten.

Khuli Chana & Lamiez
 Holworthy- November 2019

Khuli Chana and Lamiezs' relationship was kept well underwraps until the wedding bells rang. The power couple is said to have started dating around January 2019 and in November of the same year, Khuli paid Magadi and they were customarily married. The 29 year old whose real name is Ntokozo Dlamini is from Ladium in Pretoria while Khuli Chana who was born in 1982 is from Mahikeng in the North West Province. 

The couple is very much known in the entertainment industry. Khuli has many bags and a very successful track record as a rapper and businessman and Lamiez is one of the current IT girls running things. She is a DJ, TV and Radio Presenter and somewhat a fashion icon. She has also been dubbed the "The tattoed lady" for the many she dorns on her body. 

While the song "Buyile" ft. Tyler ICU, Stino Le Thwenny and Lady Du by Khuli Chana, which saw him jump on the Piano wagon is doing pretty well with over 500k YouTube views in 3 months, Lamiez has just released her first ever song called "Sthokoze" ft. The lowkeys and Drip Gogo.

Nicky Minaj & Kenneth Petty- 21 October 2019

Nicky and Zoo as he'd like to be called are both from Queens, NY and dated in their teen years before her fame. The couple rekindled their relationship again in 2018. He's been seen on several of her works like her music videos "Megatron" and "Hot Girl Summer". Nicky who dated rappers Nas and Meek Mill in the past, got married in October 2019 and welcomed her son which is her first child with the aspiring musician the following year.

Jeezy & Jeannie Mai- July 2020

Jeezy and co-host of “The Real” talk show, Jeannie Mai tied the knot in July 2020 after getting engaged in March of the same year. Rapper Jeezy who is also the founder of “Street Dreamz” non- profit organisation, just released his follow-up album “The Recession 2”. The pair started dating in 2018 while Mai was going through her divorce to her husband of 10 years. 

KidX & Duduzile Chili- December 2020

KidX and her wife,  Duduzile Chili whose relationship became known by many in 2017, welcomed their first child, a baby girl in February this year. The rapper paid lobola in March of 2020 and they celebrated their union in December 2020 with close friends and family. 

Dudu who is a model and an entrepreneur is the creator of @unlockedbydudu which speacialises in handmade knitted summer wear items like swimsuits, crops tops, pants and skirts. She played the lead in her husbands' music video for the song "Mtwana Womuntu" featuring Shwi Nomtekana.

Well it seems rappers are more than just the "take your girl" type and can be in it for the long haul. People like Wikid, Slikour, Morale, Ricky Rick and Emtee have already lead the pack and made honest Men of themselves.

 Attention Emerging Talent!! So, for the years that I have been dealing with and working alongside emerging talent, more so, artists. I have noticed some behavior pertaining to their brand. That could be credited to lack of experience and knowledge but it could also be ignorance and lack of proactivity. A lot of talent lacks a lot of knowledge of their industries.
