Pro-Chiq makes all the right moves

There's many sayings about taking a leap of faith into the uncertain, the unknown, the unsure.  But when you do and your music video premiers on Channel O, and you are recognised and working with artists outside your country, featured on national radio and TV shows, making your mom proud and every move you make bears positive results and growth, then that's the ultimate confirmation that it was a worthy jump. Rapper Pro-Chiq says she started taking herself seriously as an artist about five years ago, this after several years as an emerging artists trying to get her foot into the small rap space in her hood, Ga-Rankuwa in Pretoria.  The proof to this includes taking time off her 9 to 5 and moving from Pretoria to Johannesburg and paying for things she needed to, for her career as opposed to wanting free services or hand outs. Besides these moves, Pro-Chiq has also realised some things she can capitalise on to aid her growth. One being the internet (social media) and the other, W

Pro-Chiq promises change with new single

Pro-Chiq drops a new single titled #Change The 1st of July 2020 marks a beginning of a new era for Pro-Chiq as she releases her much anticipated single entitled “Change” featuring KeDotso and Doxi Drift.  With this particular single she intentionally tapped into the trappy and new wave sound but also never fell short of delivering a thought-provoking message as the song name suggests. A music video for the single has already been shot and is set to be released on several TV music channels and of course on online platforms within 2-3 weeks of the audio debuting. You can preview/ preorder the song on the link below: [  https://music.apple.com/us/album/change-feat-kedotso-doxi-drift-single/1525095368?uo=4&app=itunes&at=1001lry3&ct=twitter  ] "This song is actually dedicated to women who suffered and survived abuse from our Male counterparts, and therefore features the likes of #cherylzondi and the late #uyinene mrwetyana (may her beautiful soul rest in peace)." pro_

A moment with silasbeats

The silasbeats brand consists of music production, content curation (blogging, podcast and visual presentations) and music education. Silas has had many years building his name and finding ways to infiltrate as well as observe the music side of Hip Hop. And in these three service offerings, he seems to have all points covered. Between creating music, continuously growing his skillsets and his daytime job, he's still got time to look out for emerging artists. He does this through his Facebook page, website and a dedicated public WhatsApp line. We threw a few questions his way and he threw us back some gems. Find them below: How would you describe the state of HipHop in SA in the last 3 years?  I'd describe them as a bit of a plateau. We've enjoyed a really good run since 2014, but things seem stagnant of late. We've definitely taken our foot off the pedal in terms of hunting for new sponsors, looking for new opportunities and releasing GOOD music as often

Seasoned journalist's journey as a DJ

Kennedy Mudzuli is a seasoned, award winning and well respected journalist and a senior executive at Pretoria News, Tshwane's daily Newspaper.  Another trick up his sleeve is his music career. He is a vast music lover and a DJ going by the stage name "Dj Edit SA" and he launches his debut single next month. He answered our questions as follows:  As far as your interest in music is concerned, did you ever see yourself ever being an active contributor as you are now? I believe it's a calling, a gift from the Almighty. Since my teenage years, I've always been the "guy with the best playlist and latest music". Back then my interest was Hip Hop and House. I ditched Hip Hop upon realizing that it wasn't the same anymore. In the mid 90s I started playing music at family gatherings and smaller events alike. I had homemade speakers, connected to the lousiest amplifier you could imagine: but hey, it made the sound, and people danced! God has be

The CampainSA wants #JusticeForCreatives

A group of creatives have gotten together to work on something that seems to be a worthy cause. This group consists of any and every creative in South Africa, be in Film and Television, Fashion, Music, Art, Theatre, Literature, etc. The organization that goes by @thecampaignsa on Twitter has called upon each and every creative to join their cause in wanting to be heard, recognised and be treated as more than just entertainers especially during this time of the Covid-19 outbreak when they are the most affected by the lockdown. With so much exploitation faced by many of them and being overlooked on a greater scale as contributors to the economy and by the government, this might just be what is needed for singers, Djs, Designers,Rappers, Painters, Directors,Presenters, Writers and all to be acknowledged and taken seriously for the service they provide. They have sent an MOD(Memorandum Of Demands) to both the Presidents' office and the Minister's office respectively . This t

Yourlokalhead Talks of His Music Journey and The Diet LP

With a name that's more like a phrase, Yourlokalhead is that and more. From the Vaal and now residing in Pretoria, the rhyme slayer, writer and performer has released "The Diet" LP and he says he's both proud and appreciative. He answered our questions as follows:  How would you describe your musical journey this far, how has it been? I don't think I can put together the words to describe the journey perfectly, it has been inspirational. I remember just wanting to do and be better; be it lyrically or as a whole-individual. I mean with countless competitive creatives on the scene, it's easy for one to disappear into a "state" when they're absent of the urge to evolve. So for the most part, it's been an odyssey to self discovery and I'm proud... Have you learned to balance crushing the challenges and celebrating all the wins?  Wins huh?! I'd like to believe so. As long as I'm moved to write a rhyme I can never seize to celeb

A moment with Mondli Mlauza

Hello to all of the Tan89Media reader's. Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to share a bit about myself. My name is Mondli "Sgoloza" Mlauza and i am an almost 30 year old Sowetan in Orlando East. My interest in media started at a time when I didn't even know what media is, let alone be a part of it. Like all kids who grew up in the 90's, I had a desire of being on YoTV, but just didn't have the know how. In my youth, I developed a very deep obsession with radio. I have quite a number of radio stories to share, but I think my love for radio actually started in my youth. Radio is what actually made me fall in love with the media, and I have been in love for about 20 years now. I am currently working on officially launching my company in 2020, but CoVID-19 has made me alter my plans slightly. I also don't want to mention any details now, but I am working on a deal that will assist me to grow further in the award space. For Radio Lover

Music trio Ane Dess Mengel releases Party Packed EP

If you are in tune with the Pitori slang you'd propably get what AneDessMengel translates to, if not i suggest you keep reading. That's the name of the Ga-Rankuwa based HipHop Music trio. SLK (Segopotso Moabi), Kgosi Boipelo (Boipelo Mahakwe) and Lethlogonolo Moagi aka Bra Jimmy aka Khemi aka LJ Lattrel aka Good Shxt Jimmy form part of this group. They all have a journey of many years in the music industry with most years consumed by learning the industry, paving their way in and bettering their craft. The birth of AneDessMengel was as organic as the wild fruits growing in the forest. "Initially the idea was to work as a duo with Kgosi Boipelo. The plan was to work on a collaborative Mixtape and Slk was our go to producer for the project. I think after we did the #NouSo Joint, we decided to feature a verse from him also and from there on we found ourselves working on the project together. It wasn't a weird decision. We have been working together on music for

Johannesburg born Music Producer and Dj, Dr Feel, has earned a global following for blending African and Electronic music stylings with a Potter's sensibilities and touch.  Known for his remixes of artists such as Black Coffee, Zakes Bantwini, Eno Soul, Dj Maphorisa and Kabza, Dj Zinhle as well as many others, Dr Feel has been one of South Africa's most accomplished and respected unsigned artist since his debut on Ifani's album(I believes in me) IKIGAI is Dr Feel’s 1st Afro House studio EP and his most intimate to date. Hence it fits with the vision of his EP, which embodies and translates just that.  Created in his home studio, IKIGAI features super talented female artist called Zhane. The sty
