Tan89Media Tips For Emerging Talent

Attention Emerging Talent!!
So, for the years that I have been dealing with and working alongside emerging talent, more so, artists. I have noticed some behavior pertaining to their brand. That could be credited to lack of experience and knowledge but it could also be ignorance and lack of proactivity. A lot of talent lacks a lot of knowledge of their industries. The very same field they want to occupy one day.

Its super essential for anyone to know as much as possible when it comes to a dream they are pursuing or a skill they are great at or anything for that matter they say they are passionate about. The very basic things to know are many times overlooked and undermined and they play a huge role in how you develop as a brand, how you are perceived, and it shows just how serious or not one is about whatever it is they are pursuing.

I have listed and broken down six (6) tips for emerging/ up and coming brands/ talents. Hopefully they will serve helpful to some.

1. The basics of your field.
When you are an artist, DJ, Model or writer there are certain things that are a must know about your industry.
-It is important to have a Brand Profile, an up to date, professional one at that. This serves as your CV to everyone that you need to present and sell yourself to.
- Be in the know. Whether it's knowing where to register your music and any other entity you need to be registered with/under or credible agencies that you can be signed to, or publishers, etc
- If you are a recording artist or a DJ, make sure your songs are clean, or are radio edits or your mixes as a DJ are clean. If you are a model or actor, it’s imperative to know things like how to present yourself at an audition, what to wear, know about piercings, contact lenses, make up, tattoos, hairstyles and etc. Read and always read about your field.
2. Brand Development/ Building.
In building your brand and developing it, its important for one to be themselves but make sure it doesn’t jeopardize, affect in a bad way or tarnish your career, more so when it’s in the developmental stages.
Try and make sure you learn as much as you can about your field. Maximise your time, the available opportunities and abilities to the advantage of your brand. Create a demand. It’s important to develop and build your brand from the beginning, it’s going to be helpful in the long run to have a solid starting point.
3. Always Take Care of the Brand.
Always take care of the brand. This includes how you look, how you carry yourself, this includes your personal life too. Things that you consider to be minor or “not big deal” could deter your growth or even have you miss out on great opportunities.

Performing while you intoxicated (drunk, high) is disrespectful to your audience and a bad look for your brand. Social media etiquette is also important. Keep a clean and updated page. Be social media savvy. Use the trends and hashtags to boost and push your brand. Make sure your social media name /handle is in line with your stage name( that’s brand relation and make it easy to find you and relate the brand to the name) .Being on-line and being known for negative things because you are always beefing or bashing women, will not serve you any good. The “I’m not famous yet” “nobody knows who I am” lines will come back to haunt you one day.
You are a brand all the times it matters. Remember to not imitate people because they are not on the same journey as you. You are still building. The less drama you have to deal with or entertain, the more time you can focus on your career. No one wants to work with people who prove to be problematic or controversial. Do not be a liability.
4. Do Not Be Passive About Your Career.
Be a proactive person. Take it upon yourself to always be in the know. If you are serious about your career and want to take somewhere, show initiative! Make it your priority. Network with industry players. Do not just take pictures, do not just tweet them, do not just go to events only to just get drunk. Network! Learn. Observe.

Ask to visit a shoot if you are a model. Ask to visit a studio session if you are an artist, a beat making session if you are a producer, a publishing company if you are an author,a dance studio if a dancer. Familiarize yourself with the world you aspire to be within. Do not be a passive dreamer.
5. Invest In Your Career/Dream.
Its important to remember, your dream is yours first and yours alone. So you need to the first to not only believe in yourself, but to also invest in yourself. Invest time by doing research, horning your skills, building yourself and brand. Invest money by paying for that necessary profile, portfolio, classes, beats, producer, t-shirts and all the necessary things needed to help you in your pursuit.

There is really no sense in having money for booze and a nice time but none to pay for a profile or mastering. Priorities must be straight. Invest in something that will give you plenty rewards later. There’s no sense in wanting to be the best but not acting or behaving like someone who is worth the best. Make the right choices. Make the right investments.
6. Be Patient in Pursuing Your Career.
Patience is said to be a virtue but many lack the virtue to be patient. When you are an emerging talent or an up and coming person in your respective field, there’s really no need to want to rush success or blowing up or making it. That’s a premature thing to want, because not only is it unsustainable, it’s also depriving you of a chance to pay your dues, to enjoy and learn valuable lessons while on your way to the top.

Be patient. Do not rush yourself. Do not want to be there tomorrow. Just because you think you are worthy, doesn’t mean everyone will think so and open doors wide for you to enter. Be patient while working. If you stay persistent and driven, it’s going to pay off.
These could and may apply to other aspects of industries or professions. There’s a lot that we can always learn to improve and make ourselves better. If you believe you might need some assistance with your interview etiquette, your profile or anything regarding any of these or anything else brand development, do hit me up and I will gladly make the time….

The Motswako Prince of Maftown, Sly YoHighness

It looks like Sly YoHighness might just got next as the Motswako Prince. It's now been a long while since we've had a proper Motswako wave breakthrough. Remember when the Morafe and Tuks wave hit, or when Gata lenna came out, Fifi Cooper and the late HHPs consistency and many comebacks? A lot of us have been wondering "who got next"? With the fall of guys like Notshi and KT struggling to properly cement his stance, is Sly the guy to look out for? I hit him up through the socials, to find out what he's been up to and if he really got his sight set on the throne. So how did he get into this whole music and creative space thing? He says he's always been artistic and one thing led to the other . "I love & have always loved acting. I'm very out there & funny too (yes, he is). So once I started writing I kinda never stopped, though I always felt it's a farfetched dream or whatever but I kept on writing, even if it was just for mysel
