King Tonic ploughs back to the L with a Compilation Mixtape

The hustle in the Limpopo Province in terms of Hip Hop has been on an up and up for a solid time now. There's some dedicated individuals and collectives  who stick it up in trying to do the most trying to bring things up to a certain level. From events, mediums and the Music.

Speaking of music, the recent drop comes in a form of a compilation mixtape from somewhat an OG , a Limpopo Hip Hop Pioneer. Sifiso Hassan Kabini aka King Tonic, got together a few of notable artists across the province and put together this project titled “ Cut& Paste 2”
He's from the era of Ba4za and was deep in the CapCity Movement, also getting mentorship from Hakeem " Flex Boogie" Anderson. He's now doing what most overlook, he's giving back. Here's what he had to say to us.

What inspired the need for this project and what is it about?
The project was inspired by the growth of Hip Hop in the country, and the thought that I should play a part in the recognition of artists in Limpopo because it has always been slept on.

How did you come to choose the artists that you worked with?
I personally have always took interest in Hip Hop artists particularly in Limpopo as my home province. I then decided to contact them with the intention of making one of the first if not the first Hip Hop compilations from Limpopo.

Are these collaborations helpful in the growth and unity of the culture?
Coming from an isolated province like Limpopo , Such projects are key in the development of Hip Hop artists and the culture as a whole. Such initiatives bring about unity for people that are surrounded by stereotype and misconceptions.

What's the Hip Hop scene like in the Limpopo province as a whole and what do you guys think should be done to up the standards?
Currently the Hip Hop scene in the province is in ICU. Many great Hip Hop artists have given up and others flourish soon as they relocate to Gauteng or Cape Town. What should be done is that there should be unity first before anything. Because when you are United and support one another, you can conquer any difficulty you face and succeed against all odds.
If you guys could address the Limpopo MEC of Arts& Culture , what key thing would you say to them?

I would ask the MEC to not sideline Hip Hop artists and give them equal attention as any other genre. We would love to be seen as equal artists and let our work speak for us to them and those that support us.

With your CapCity influence and grooming, how are you planning on ploughing that back in the scene of Motetema and beyond?
I would love to be part of the growth of Hip Hop in any way possible. The mix tape is one of the ways I intend to contribute to that growth. My grooming in CapCity has given me enough exposure to know what should be done and how because of the Hip Hop scene there. I think using some of the lessons learned there much can be done taking from those lessons.

What's the future plan for this project and for you moving forward?
I have been away from the scene for quite some time and I feel I now have the time and energy needed to push and fully play a role in the growth and development of the Hip Hop in my hometown and province in particular. I will continue dropping mixtapes, hopefully twice in a year, and I also intend on working on my solo career

Cut & Paste boosts 17 tracks and features Illflow, McNady, Stas, Crimelords, Big Ban, Shark Razor, KGS, Vision of Spirit, GY Gee, Fuza Faze, and Hypodermic. The project will be pushed in unison and there won't be any singled out single, but you are most welcomed to give it a listen and pick a fave.

The Motswako Prince of Maftown, Sly YoHighness

It looks like Sly YoHighness might just got next as the Motswako Prince. It's now been a long while since we've had a proper Motswako wave breakthrough. Remember when the Morafe and Tuks wave hit, or when Gata lenna came out, Fifi Cooper and the late HHPs consistency and many comebacks? A lot of us have been wondering "who got next"? With the fall of guys like Notshi and KT struggling to properly cement his stance, is Sly the guy to look out for? I hit him up through the socials, to find out what he's been up to and if he really got his sight set on the throne. So how did he get into this whole music and creative space thing? He says he's always been artistic and one thing led to the other . "I love & have always loved acting. I'm very out there & funny too (yes, he is). So once I started writing I kinda never stopped, though I always felt it's a farfetched dream or whatever but I kept on writing, even if it was just for mysel

Tan89Media Tips For Emerging Talent

Attention Emerging Talent!! So, for the years that I have been dealing with and working alongside emerging talent, more so, artists. I have noticed some behavior pertaining to their brand. That could be credited to lack of experience and knowledge but it could also be ignorance and lack of proactivity. A lot of talent lacks a lot of knowledge of their industries. The very same field they want to occupy one day. Its super essential for anyone to know as much as possible when it comes to a dream they are pursuing or a skill they are great at or anything for that matter they say they are passionate about. The very basic things to know are many times overlooked and undermined and they play a huge role in how you develop as a brand, how you are perceived, and it shows just how serious or not one is about whatever it is they are pursuing. I have listed and broken down six (6) tips for emerging/ up and coming brands/ talents. Hopefully they will serve helpful to some. 1. The bas
