R.I.P #1 Soweto Boy

The rhymes, catchy punchlines, mad raps, storylines, adlibs, killer verses, hit singles and classic albums. PRO was that guy. Likable too.
Linda Mkhize, Khabazela, Mlindo, Prokid...

To now be relaying to him as "late" is something that's yet to fully sink in. The rapper was reported to have passed away on the 8th of August 2018 at around past 8pm due to a severe seizure.

He was the true definition of the old adage about dynamites.

Short, with a very light, tiny, scrawny voice and his size referenced nothing of intimidation on sight. Surface things, coz when he opened his mouth it would be a movie.
Being able to boast as a battle rapper and to still go out and put out hits like "sekele" "bhampa" " Dankie San" " Move" Soweto " and more other songs, not many could.

See, Pro was just pure, unfiltered, unpurified, non flavoured talent.
He was the original and the authentic in the game.

Stories of the introduction of Linda to the game have been told. From as far as Durban,Lamontville to Tembisa and of cause his hometown Soweto.
Everyone has been reminiscent. From all the 5 albums he's dropped (Heads and Tales, DNA, Dankie San, Snakes and Ladders and last offering Continua) to the lives he's touched, changed and inspired, as a cap wearing guy from ekasi, who raps in IsiZulu.

A lot of us are lucky to have a memory of him or a few. Some vague and some very vivid. Memories carrying us through this time.

The number 1 Soweto boy, was truly a pioneer in the industry. To come to the mainstream with gritty, kasi punch lines when mostly were gunning for the commercially American influenced sound was bold. He wasn't trying for swag, or cool appeal
Boy was bringing the bars.

Perhaps the saying " you don't know what you got till its gone" is the feeling in the  air as we realise all the hopes we had of him, about him, will never come to pass. Those dream features, (maybe another song with Omen or Hoodlum or the remake/remix of one of his classics.)

To accept we will never see him on stage,on TV,on the radio, on the streets in real time! Its a hard sting!

He was only 37,but already a  legend. Many have seen him on his come up, with his breakthroughs and all his wins. We hang on to those.

His story was a beautiful one. His e music was truly loved and supported from Slaghuis, to YFM,to the streets.

PRO is gone, he is no more to never come back again.

All we can do is celebrate his contributions, his talent, skill, his artistry, his life.

Set aside the negative BS. Set aside the what ifs and could haves. Unless he wakes up, then there's really not much else to do but.

We'll continue the chants that's become a part of our lives, to show humility, to motivate, to encourage.

Dankie San!
Pressa,pusha phanda!
Ungaphel'umoya san

To the pioneer, the creative, the talented #1 Soweto boy

We have lost a real one.
Lala kahle.
There will never be another.

Pro will be laid to rest on the 18th of August 2018

The Motswako Prince of Maftown, Sly YoHighness

It looks like Sly YoHighness might just got next as the Motswako Prince. It's now been a long while since we've had a proper Motswako wave breakthrough. Remember when the Morafe and Tuks wave hit, or when Gata lenna came out, Fifi Cooper and the late HHPs consistency and many comebacks? A lot of us have been wondering "who got next"? With the fall of guys like Notshi and KT struggling to properly cement his stance, is Sly the guy to look out for? I hit him up through the socials, to find out what he's been up to and if he really got his sight set on the throne. So how did he get into this whole music and creative space thing? He says he's always been artistic and one thing led to the other . "I love & have always loved acting. I'm very out there & funny too (yes, he is). So once I started writing I kinda never stopped, though I always felt it's a farfetched dream or whatever but I kept on writing, even if it was just for mysel

Tan89Media Tips For Emerging Talent

Attention Emerging Talent!! So, for the years that I have been dealing with and working alongside emerging talent, more so, artists. I have noticed some behavior pertaining to their brand. That could be credited to lack of experience and knowledge but it could also be ignorance and lack of proactivity. A lot of talent lacks a lot of knowledge of their industries. The very same field they want to occupy one day. Its super essential for anyone to know as much as possible when it comes to a dream they are pursuing or a skill they are great at or anything for that matter they say they are passionate about. The very basic things to know are many times overlooked and undermined and they play a huge role in how you develop as a brand, how you are perceived, and it shows just how serious or not one is about whatever it is they are pursuing. I have listed and broken down six (6) tips for emerging/ up and coming brands/ talents. Hopefully they will serve helpful to some. 1. The bas
