Artist Feature: MABIZOL

The Motswako sub genre having birthed many still active gameplayers like Fifi Cooper, HHP,Khuli Chana, Towdeemac, Notshi, Madleradoeboy and Cassper,  still continues to hold it's own and hasn't shown signs of dying out or loosing it's grip.

There's still many emerging artists under the banner with plans to carry it forward and make their own mark.

One such is Mabizol from the Capital City of the North West Province. He's been on a comeup since 2010, learning the ropes and harnessing his skill. Collaborating and putting in any work that will get him closer to his dream. Be it studying the craft, producing , even doing a theme song for a local radio station. He is working under the label "Gura Nami" where he delves as an artist and producer.

Mafikeng is no doubt the god of the Motswako world. It's produced many creatives, even outside the Hip Hop space. Mabizol is on a musical quest and he is also ready to make his contributions as one from Lemaf.

Here is the QnA session we had with him:

What/who sparked your interest in Hip Hop?
I have always been in love with Hip Hop music from a young age,
though my older brother really influenced my love for Hip Hop, like the music he always played in the house really sparked my love for it.

You refer your sound as being T-Rock... explain the inspiration behind that?
T - Rock (Tswak Rock) is a term that I came with up with as my sound is Hip Hop which is well blended with sounds of other genres of music, and it is also to let people know that Motswako music still rocks,
hence T - Rock (Tswak Rock) The sound will be well documented on my upcoming project #iSangoma EP

What's the Hip Hop scene like in Mafikeng?
The Hip Hop scene in Mafikeng is just normal, a lot of talent around. It has it's fair share of Ups and Downs just like any other Hip Hop scene.

Which artist/s  do you look up to and which qualities and character traits in them do aspire to?
I look up to alot artists for different reasons but I am a big admirer of Mufasa and his achievements in the game.

What do you think is the biggest huddle/challenges facing emerging rappers today?
Most people in the industry especially emerging artists, have the wrong perception about the music industry and that's what causes a lot of confusion and pain towards emerging artists.

Would you say studying what you do as a musician is important?
It depends on an invidual, for me I did a musical course for a year at Mmabana as a pianist and I studied Sound Engineering and recently completed a Sound Technology learnership programme at the SABC

What's your music all about and which topics inspire your writing?
My music it's about everything. I write about love, everyday life crisis. To keep it short I take the hopes, wishes and dreams of today's young people and set them into music. Simply going pop without compromising the art.

Do you think S.A Rap is being socially responsible enough, if all at all in their music ?
The music is socially responsible, it's only the problem of people misinterpreting the message that is portrayed by the sound.

Do you think the beef serves any purpose, especially for emerging artists?
No! Beef is not good, its a thing that most bitter people implement in order to take a good man down. I am all about love, peace and unity.

You heard that. No beef, just the music.
Besides handling the books, Mabizol is currently working on his Ep "iSangoma" and it will help his step up into the game with a sound that's unique and fresh but keeping true to the Motswako identity. First single off the project titled "Space Love" is due to drop sometime in October.
Be sure to look out for that.

The Motswako Prince of Maftown, Sly YoHighness

It looks like Sly YoHighness might just got next as the Motswako Prince. It's now been a long while since we've had a proper Motswako wave breakthrough. Remember when the Morafe and Tuks wave hit, or when Gata lenna came out, Fifi Cooper and the late HHPs consistency and many comebacks? A lot of us have been wondering "who got next"? With the fall of guys like Notshi and KT struggling to properly cement his stance, is Sly the guy to look out for? I hit him up through the socials, to find out what he's been up to and if he really got his sight set on the throne. So how did he get into this whole music and creative space thing? He says he's always been artistic and one thing led to the other . "I love & have always loved acting. I'm very out there & funny too (yes, he is). So once I started writing I kinda never stopped, though I always felt it's a farfetched dream or whatever but I kept on writing, even if it was just for mysel

Tan89Media Tips For Emerging Talent

Attention Emerging Talent!! So, for the years that I have been dealing with and working alongside emerging talent, more so, artists. I have noticed some behavior pertaining to their brand. That could be credited to lack of experience and knowledge but it could also be ignorance and lack of proactivity. A lot of talent lacks a lot of knowledge of their industries. The very same field they want to occupy one day. Its super essential for anyone to know as much as possible when it comes to a dream they are pursuing or a skill they are great at or anything for that matter they say they are passionate about. The very basic things to know are many times overlooked and undermined and they play a huge role in how you develop as a brand, how you are perceived, and it shows just how serious or not one is about whatever it is they are pursuing. I have listed and broken down six (6) tips for emerging/ up and coming brands/ talents. Hopefully they will serve helpful to some. 1. The bas
