Tshwane Music Conference- Part I: The Media brief

So, on Friday the 6th Uhuru held a media brief regarding the Tshwane Music Conference set to take place from the 23rd to the 25th of May at the Tshwane Events Centre (hall G) and the festival on the 28th of the same month.
So I arrived when last years’ winner, Howard was doing his thing for the attendees. He does this soulful, mellow house music, at least that’s what I picked up from his performance. He mentioned that winning the TMC competition helped him a great deal as he has elevated his presence in the industry and has performed in places outside the country.
Back to the Media Launch…. it got underway and the Uhuru gang (Dj Maphorisa, Dj Bucks and Dj Klap) Simphiwe (from the Muffinz) and Terrence (from Pioneer DJ Institute) also formed part of the media address panel.
Mashabane aka Papao aka Mr. No Sex appeal, was the MC. I guess you can never go wrong with humor.  Anyway, the gang gave a brief history about the inception of the group, what inspired the TMC initiative and their experiences in the industry.
In a nutshell, the Tshwane Music Conference in partnership with the City of Tshwane is an annual event which commenced last year. The aim of this one of the guys said is to pass knowledge to the emerging creative in the industry, as far as music is concerned because “Oskido helped us so we also want to help others” said Dj Bucks.
The conference is aimed at Dj’s, producers, artists, singers, songwriters and instrumentalists. The speakers will include Oskido, Nasty C, Dj Bucks, Dj Sbu and more. Simphiwe spoke of their involvement on the conference “We like the initiative. We are a variety of artists in the group, so getting to share our experiences about the industry and how we work together, from the song writing process to conceptualizing will help others”
This years’ event will have 10 winners, unlike last year, where there was only one winner. The prizes includes a 3 Year recording and mentorship contract under UHURU Music Entertainment (Pty) Ltd , a pioneer pro  DJ course from Pioneer , Uhuru merchandise and also a chance to perform at the Tshwane Music Festival.

-Id would like for this initiative to be pro Tshwane. For it to elevate, grow the arts, the artists, the media, the talent and the everything that can benefit from this in Tshwane.

-I’d like to have several artists, in a couple of years’ time say “My big break was winning at the TMC” or say “I attended the TMC conference and what was said there got me where I am now”
- I would like to see artists taking ahold of this initiative and not sleeping on it. This is a great chance to learn and network and promote your art. Do not allow others from outside come through and own what is meant for you. Be proactive and capitalize on this.
-I’d love for this to grow with the coming years. From the admin and especially its reach to the people it’s meant for. The promoting of the conference and the accessibility of it.

If you missed the chance to register for the conference too bad for you! Make sure you get serious about your hustle and register next year when the event takes place again.

The Motswako Prince of Maftown, Sly YoHighness

It looks like Sly YoHighness might just got next as the Motswako Prince. It's now been a long while since we've had a proper Motswako wave breakthrough. Remember when the Morafe and Tuks wave hit, or when Gata lenna came out, Fifi Cooper and the late HHPs consistency and many comebacks? A lot of us have been wondering "who got next"? With the fall of guys like Notshi and KT struggling to properly cement his stance, is Sly the guy to look out for? I hit him up through the socials, to find out what he's been up to and if he really got his sight set on the throne. So how did he get into this whole music and creative space thing? He says he's always been artistic and one thing led to the other . "I love & have always loved acting. I'm very out there & funny too (yes, he is). So once I started writing I kinda never stopped, though I always felt it's a farfetched dream or whatever but I kept on writing, even if it was just for mysel

Tan89Media Tips For Emerging Talent

Attention Emerging Talent!! So, for the years that I have been dealing with and working alongside emerging talent, more so, artists. I have noticed some behavior pertaining to their brand. That could be credited to lack of experience and knowledge but it could also be ignorance and lack of proactivity. A lot of talent lacks a lot of knowledge of their industries. The very same field they want to occupy one day. Its super essential for anyone to know as much as possible when it comes to a dream they are pursuing or a skill they are great at or anything for that matter they say they are passionate about. The very basic things to know are many times overlooked and undermined and they play a huge role in how you develop as a brand, how you are perceived, and it shows just how serious or not one is about whatever it is they are pursuing. I have listed and broken down six (6) tips for emerging/ up and coming brands/ talents. Hopefully they will serve helpful to some. 1. The bas
